Abstract
Local food is a reflection of cultural identity, local wisdom, and the social resilience of the community that has been passed down from generation to generation. However, amid the strong tide of modernization and globalization, the younger generation in the capital of Ende Regency has shown a significant decline in interest in the preservation of local food. This study aims to identify the social factors that influence this phenomenon through a qualitative descriptive approach, using data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and documentation from various actors, including students, educators, communities, and government agencies. The research results reveal three main factors behind the declining interest of the younger generation in preserving local food, namely the change in mindset and lifestyle that tends to favor practicality and modern trends, the lack of support for local food-related curriculum in schools, and the proliferation of fast-food stalls that massively influence the consumption preferences of young people. The lack of knowledge and pride in local food has the potential to weaken the cultural bonds of the younger generation with their ancestral heritage. Therefore, collaborative efforts between the government, educational institutions, and communities are needed to instill cultural values and rebuild the image of local food as a symbol of regional pride that is relevant to modern life.
